Monday, Jan. 21 - Melbourne

We started today off making "rainbow popsicles," something Ii learned about and wanted to make. She and G went to the store on Friday and found the popsicle molds and bought frozen fruit, but we didn't get them made before we left for Cape Otway. Today was the day! It was actually pretty easy and fun. We started with a banana "smoothie" (banana and milk) and poured that into the molds. Put the molds into the freezer for 15 minutes. Brought them back out for the strawberry / milk smoothie. Poured the red part on top of the partially-frozen banana-colored part. Back in the freezer for 15 minutes. Then brought them out for the mango / milk concoction and to put the lids / stems in. Froze them for a few hours while we went to the Melbourne Botanical Gardens and they were ready when we got home 4 hours later!

The Botanica Gardens were lovely. They have a Children's Garden, which has hidden forests and climbing structures, a river that runs through it, sand, birds. It was so fun. We went to a lovely Vietnamese cafe for a snack before the girls got ice cream. On our way out, we found a palm tree that was planted in 1904 and an oak tree that required a panoramic photo to get it all in!

We headed home for sandwiches, the rainbow popsicles, and to run through Helen's sprinkler. Then we sat outside for home-made pizza and an early bedtime.
