Byron Bay!

Whoa, Byron Bay is TOOOOUUUURISTY! We had no real clue, but thankfully, we are staying outside of town. Our apartment units at the Oasis Treetop Resort are perfect. We have a pool, a short walk to the ocean and a short drive to the madness that is Byron Bay.

We have been doing most of our meals here, with G cooking up delicious pancakes and oatmeal our first morning this morning, and doing dynamite dinners last night and tonight. We plan on going to the farmers market tomorrow as the produce is supposedly out of this world. And they serve breakfast there so we shall try it!

This morning, we headed off to the Byron Bay Lighthouse. We got lucky and found two parking spots and wandered around, gawking at the views. Panoramas of the ocean, and we were apparently at the most eastern point of Australia (though a woman told us there is a spot in the town just south of us that is more eastern but not as many people go there?!). The water was so clear, even from hundreds of feet up, that we could see sea turtles swimming by. We even caught a glimpse of an eagle ray and then a huge pod of probably 30 dolphins. The girls brought their art stuff and did some fantastic artwork, inspired by the sea. S even drew a sea turtle coming up for air set against a sun and waves. It was quite beautiful!

We came back for a second day of pool action. Papa Dan and Glamma both joined us today, and then we all hung out in the hot tub. Movie night tonight, our first with the grandparents, was “Balto,” the incredible story of the part dog / part wolf who saved the town of Nome, Alaska, in 1925 by getting emergency medicine to them despite the brutal Alaska winter.
