We are back in Cairns ("Cans") for a night. We were on the 9:30am ferry from Fitzroy, so we had all day in Cairns. We checked into the same hotel (they stored our carseats, which was very helpful!) and promptly did a lot of laundry. All of our stuff, even stuff we hand washed and laundry washed on the islands, was sticky and not clean feeling. So we took the time in Cairns (and the washing machine and dryer in our little apartment unit in the hotel, plus the intense heat out on the balcony!) to wash everything. We also checked out the Cairns Art Museum, which had a fantastic kids' art area, and I went to a pharmacy to pick up some stuff to soothe S's bazillion bug bites. Turns out the poor little thing is like her dad - lots of bushy hair on her head and a mosquito magnet! She has terrible reactions so the bazillion bug bites are also huge welts. So she took a pee-yellow bath in some stuff to soothe it all, then took some medicine (which was supposed to be "non drowsy"), and then took a 90 minute nap. She woke up feeling better, especially when G told her that he and C and Ii (on their walk to a book store for a new nighttime chapter book) brought her back some chocolate ice cream.
(we also saw kids protesting the government ignoring climate change!)
Tomorrow, we have the morning here before leaving on a 12:40pm flight to Brisbane, where we meet Glamma and Papa Dan (G's parents, who flew in from Chicago!).
